Sew Fun Get-Away

This past weekend, The Honey, my daughters and daughter's friend headed to the cabin to sew. Not The Honey....he just came to relax. He was suppose to ski but was just getting over a cold so he stayed indoors.

Sewing machines got set up quickly on Friday and the girls dived right in on their projects! I wasn't as prepared as I thought I was so I didn't get much done. I ended up not having enough heat-n-bond for my applique pieces.

Look at that face on my baby!!! She isn't quite into sewing yet....plus she thought she should be sleeping all day since she was on "vacation". And her hair.....well.....hard to tell she is a stylist, isn't it?! hahahaha :) (she is going to "love" this pic!)

I bought this magazine because our LQS designers are in it with their quilt pattern. Page 33.

I love their quilt, but I was really drawn to this quilt that is featured right after theirs. I loved it so much that I decided to make it the day before we headed to the cabin. (One of the reasons I wasn't prepared----last minute decisions with color choices were more important than heat-n-bond I guess)

As far as I got....I could have finished the braid but got tired of getting up and down to press. I finished it when I got home with the iron that sits next to my machine.

I also brought this to make. Again.....not enough heat-n-bond so I couldn't do the applique. It would have been a quick, easy quilt to make if I hadn't forgotten the main ingredient for this project!

Middle child sewed up a storm. She is almost finished with her "Not Your Grandmother's Log Cabin" quilt! Look! She matches her quilt!

She also worked on her finishing blocks for this year's BOM from our LQS. These will go with her "watermelon" BOM.

Finished up some more jelly roll blocks and her March BOM.

Here's is her friend. I am amazed at how well these girls sew! This one has never done applique before and had no problem picking up how to do it!

Had snow while at the cabin.....again......am hoping that next time we are there we will see signs of Spring!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Spent the weekend here.......

The Honey loves his flag! He always puts it out when we are "home" at the cabin....along with the "Y" flag.

33 years ago on this day, I was dating "The Honey". For that Valentine's day, I found a bakery in Utah that would make a cake in the shape of lips. Believe me....Honey was surprised with his gift that day! Now the Honey gives me a lip cake every so often for Valentine's Day. It is a fun way to remember our young love so many years ago!

Hope you have a wonderful day full of love....with people that you love the most!

Beautiful Fall Weekend!

Last weekend, the Honey and I stayed at our cabin. The weather was gorgeous. Lots warmer than most of the summer days we had over there!

We had a couple of visitors on Saturday morning. A cow moose was walking near the cabin and kept turning around to look back. Pretty soon this guy came up, grunting. He stopped, so we talked a bit before he got bored with me and walked into the trees.

The colors were gorgeous. Lots of red and orange already!

Middle child called us on our way home Sunday afternoon and told us to head to Evanston so we could see the fire raging near I-80. Well, wouldn't you know it, when we got there all roads were closed. We decided to take a back road home. Guess other locals decided to do the same thing since it was quite a busy dirt road.

Here are the Piedmont kilns. Lots of history around this area with the Mormon pioneers coming through this way, the California trail and the Piedmont ghost town.

When we finally hit the freeway we felt like we were in a twilight zone. No one on the interstate for miles! Here's the best pic of the fire that we could get.

At least we were able to make it home. Lots quicker than sitting with the poor folks on the interstate backed up for miles waiting for the road to reopen!

Sew days at the cabin

Middle child and I went to the cabin this past week to do some sewing. It's always fun to have a gorgeous lake to look at while you sit at your sewing machine and sew! We took our "Not Your Grandmother's Log Cabin Quilt" project with us to work on.

Here was where we started on Thursday:

It was fun to see each star progress.

Love Middle Child's color selections, especially the coral...it just pops the whole quilt.

Here she is all tuckered out......we had to go to the lake after naptime so we could relax some more! :)

By Saturday afternoon, I was able to get almost the whole quilt finished. Need to add my strips on each side so it will be square and then it will be ready to take to the quilter. Was a fun quilt to make. The book says you can't only make just one. They may be right!

Some time away from home.....

Have been spending some much needed time away from home at our cabin.  A couple of days were spent sewing.  I finished up more of the Buggy Barn Convoy blocks.  Need to still applique the wheels on the trucks plus add the front ends to the tractors.
Middle child worked on her Buggy Barn Crazy Sails.  Got it all done too!  I really love the colors of fabric she used!
Next border for the Patchwork Posse Round Robin.  Still need to sew it to the rest of the top.
Daughter's coupon purse.
Inside look so you can see her handmade organizers.
Wouldn't you know it....we got lots of this again!  About 6-8" fell while we were there.
The start of the snowfall.
There was a day that the sun came out and middle child had to get some sun!  Brrrr!

Was pretty funny to look up one day while sewing and find middle child doing this to her frozen strawberries.

Am now home and ready to finish some more projects!

Weekend in Snow

We spent Friday night at the cabin.  As the sign says, we went to RELAX.

Right.

What really happened?
The snow was so deep that we couldn't get up the driveway.
The shoveling began.  I was lucky that my daughter didn't bring her snow boots and she wanted to help her dad so she borrowed mine.  I helped by taking pictures.  hehehe.

One thing about heavy snow.....it sure can be beautiful!

Thanksgiving Weekend

The last fews days have been spent with the family.  The Baby of the family was able to come home at the last minute instead of staying at school.  Who only gives one day off for students during a holiday weekend?  I was happy the school changed their mind about only giving Thursday off!
You can see we take advantage of her when she is home to cut our hair!

The Lil' Prince was asleep most of the time but we were able to get a few moments with him near the end of the Thanksgiving Day visit.  He sure is a cutie.

Spent a night at the cabin so we could try to shop on Black Friday.  I found that I have grown into a small town girl because I didn't find anything in the stores worth standing in long lines for.  I find that ironic since I love to shop!

We were also here for the last game of the season.  It's always nice when your team wins a BIG game like they did yesterday!

It's been a busy last few days with lots of traveling and visiting!
