Sunflowers in the Rough-Done!

Well, I finished a quilt kit that I bought years ago!  Yea!  It was easy to put together.  Not sure why I never opened it up before now.  I'm not sure I realized when I bought the kit (on ebay) that it was rag edge applique but it looks cute with all the plaid fabrics.  Now to get it off to the quilter so I can get it back to hang for this Fall season!

October at Gardner's Village

The Honey wanted to go to a Home Show on Saturday in Sandy, Utah so after my Block of the Month meeting at the quilt shop, we headed on down.  While traveling, I remembered a blog friend wrote that Gardner Village was a fun place to visit during the month of October.  Of course I knew about the quilt shop there so I suggested to the Honey that we go there first and see what was happening.  Fun, it was!  I would love to go again and visit but take the lil' guy with me.  I think he would love seeing all the Halloween characters.  Pine Needles was too crowded for me to really look around in but it is a very nice shop to visit in you are ever in Utah.  Lots of embroidery supplies along with some nice fabric.

In the furniture shop at Gardner Village, I found and fell in love with this chair.  Never mind the price.  Never mind that it doesn't go with anything in my home.  I love LOVE love it!  I had to take a picture since it didn't come home with me.

For awhile now I have been thinking that I needed to start making quilts from the quilt kits that I seem to acquire far more often than I should.  It is so easy to buy a kit with all the fabric and pattern put together for you.  Sometimes it is cheaper too, especially if you decide you have to have new fresh fabric and not use your stash.  I had bought this Julie Popa kit years ago and it has been sitting in my closet just waiting for me to pull it out and decide it was time to make it.  When I finally decided that this kit would be "the one" to make next, I found out that it didn't have enough different fabric for the background and it didn't have any of the yellows or blues that I needed.  A bit disappointing but we are making do by using scraps of 30's fabric.  
Finally all the pieces are cut out!  Now it's time to sew!

Winter is coming

I don't think we are going to get much use out of the newest gazebo the Honey put up.  The snow will all melt by this afternoon, but the cold weather is here to stay.
Can you see that truck on the other side of our fence?  I "get" to hear the digging of a well everyday, all day.  It's been going on for the past week.  My sewing room and bedroom are both on that side of the house.  It's like your listening to your heart beating...only slower and louder.   DaThump, DaThump, DaThumb.

The cows were sure mooing this a.m. though I don't see them in the picture!

I am cutting out a new quilt.  I bought a kit only to find out that there isn't enough fabric for everything.  So my plaids are going to have 30's fabric with them.  Hopefully they will all get along.  Will show the progress later.

Halloween Swap

Wish I had a design wall so I could audition each block in different places without alot of trouble but the floor and camera does work too. These are the blocks I received back from Jane's Halloween Swap. I was in a group with ladies from around the world. Blocks traveled from Sweden, UK, American Samoa, Illinois, Florida, Maryland, Utah, New Mexico, California, Kentucky and Wyoming.  Thank you ladies!

It Always Snows in September!

In preparation of the storm that we were (are) going to be getting today, I worked in the garden yesterday.  I knew that pumpkins start to shrivel when cold comes and we are suppose to have low temps into next week, so I picked all of them to put in the garage.  A few had turned orange but many were still green, as you can see.  A friend told me that they will still turn yellow.  We will see.

I had lots of red tomatoes but oh so many more green tomatoes.  Again, I had to pick them so they wouldn't freeze.  I have them in sacks now and in dark closets to try to ripen them just like my friend told me to do.  I hope they will turn red.  Such a shame to have bag after bag of green tomatoes!  I'm just not sure I can eat green spaghetti sauce!

It took all day to clean out the garden.  After picking a plant, I would pull it up and get it ready to put into the garbage.  I'm not sure what other gardeners do.  Do you wait until Spring to clean it up or do you clean it up now, like I tried to do?  Remember this is all a first for me.

And the weathermen were right about the cold and the storm that would be moving in today!  Can you see the snow?  It has been spittin' and rainin' all day today.

It was the best kind of day to finish these up!  This is for the D9PS with Jane.  Yea for me!  I had electricians here all day so I tried to stay in my sewing room to keep out of their way.  Perfect time to get these done and mailed.

Here's some different ways to put the blocks back together.  I really enjoy these blocks since they are so versatile.  Reminds me of a log cabin block.

And here is my finished pile!  All cut and ready to be mailed tomorrow!  I can hardly wait to get this swap back.  Will be fun to see what other aqua and red fabric other ladies found to use!

Now to go check on my potato soup for the evening.  I love soup on cold days like today!

Quilt for Lil' Prince

Red Rooster quilted this one.  It's my Disappearing 9 Patch for the next grandson that is due in November.

And see that fire pit?  I am hoping to have Dutch Oven Potatoes cooking in there in just a few hours.  Our area is suppose to get hit with a cold snap this week so we plan on doing some outdoor cooking tonight as a last hurrah before winter sets in.
